Becky Barrett - Financial Controller
In the latest instalment of our Day in the Life series, we chatted to Becky Barrett, Financial Controller at ICD Europe.
I’m responsible for everything finance-related at ICD Europe. I prepare the monthly management accounts, carry out cashflow forecasting, manage the budgets, process customer payments, submit VAT returns and pay our suppliers. I also deal with our New York-based accounts team on a regular basis, and reporting to them is a big part of my job.
So that is a fair bit of work considering I only work 3 days a week! When I first started it was fairly easy to manage as the business was just starting out. But the growth since then has been phenomenal, so it's now a lot busier.
Luckily, I have Jake on my team to help me out with data inputting and payment of invoices etc.
The role comes as second nature to me now, so I wouldn’t say it presents any particular challenges. However, the company is growing incredibly quickly, which means my role has to evolve and grow with it. It makes life interesting and definitely keeps me on my toes!
We’ve got a great team at ICD. Wayne’s a good boss, always fair and transparent. We have regular team meetings, which make everyone feel involved in our plans for the future. I like the fact that we all have a say in how things are run, and we’re encouraged to point out anything that’s not working so well and make suggestions as to how we can work together to make things better.
For the size of turnover we have, it’s a relatively small team but everyone is so great at what they do it just works. You know you work for a good company when you love coming to the office – and I genuinely do!
Most of my time outside of work is spent as a family - my two young kids keep me very busy. We’ve done a lot of work on our house in recent years so we’re having a break from that right now. We’re looking forward to hopefully getting away on holiday at some point for a well-deserved rest!
